Özet
Intracranial hemorrhage is a serious cause of morbidity and mortality in the neonate. While the brains of newborns might show greater ability for tissue adaptability and recovery following cerebrovascular problems, intracerebral hemorrhages can lead to severe neurodevelopmental consequences. The incidence of ICH has been challenging in recent years due to changing obstetric practices and the increasing use of neuroimaging methods in the neonatal period. In term neonates, it is relatively rare compared to premature infants and has a different localization, etiology, clinical presentation and neurologic outcome. Intracranial hemorrhage in term neonates usually occurs in the vicinity of the falx and tentorium cerebelli and may occur in the dural cavity forming a posterior fossa hemorrhage or within the brain parenchyma. Unlike the presentation of intracranial hemorrhage later in childhood, neonates with intracranial hemorrhage may have subtle clinical signs or may present with seizures, vomiting, anemia, irritability or decreased level of consciousness or both as well as being completively asymptomatic. Clinicians should be alert for possible intracranial hemorrhage in the presence of risk factors. Moreover, neuroimaging studies in otherwise asymptomatic terminfants have led to a new awareness of the incidence of more clinically benign forms of intracranial hemorrhage. Intracranial hemorrhage is generally addressed with conservative medical treatment, although there are occasions when surgical intervention is required and can be life-saving. © 2025 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
