Noise is a major environmental pollution component that is difficult to control and has the potential for damage in terms of occupational disease. In this study, noise measurements were taken in seven natural stone processing plants operating in Sivas and its surroundings, the results were evaluated, and the frequency-noise relations were revealed. Machines with the highest noise levels are head cutting/side cutting machines, bridge saw, block cutting machines, small surface grinding machines, marble ageing machines, gang saw and sizing/honing machines. The machines with the lowest noise levels are void filling machines, slabs waxing machines and chamfering machines. When the machines and the plant are taken into consideration the frequency ranges for the highest noise levels are mostly between 1250 Hz - 5000 Hz and concentrated around 3150 Hz. Thus, in general, the sounds in the plant environment can be defined as thin. Employees in other regions were exposed to a noise level of more than 80 dBA, which is the lowest exposure action value, except for the personnel working in the filling/reinforcement machines of natural stone processing plants. Although the processes in natural stone processing plants are similar, there are significant differences in noise levels of machines. The main reasons for this difference are the machine layout planning in the plants and the placement of machines with high noise levels along with low-noise machines in the same compartments. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
