dc.description.abstractÖZ Yaşam süresinin uzaması ve demografik dönüşüm, yaşlanma sürecini ve yaşlılık dönemini modern toplumların önemli bir konusu haline getirmektedir. Bu değişim ve dönüşüm, tıp öğretimine gerontoloji dersi eklenmesinin gerekli olup olmadığı sorusunu ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Bu makalede, gerontoloji dersinin tıp öğretimine eklenmesinin önemi ve potansiyel faydaları ele alınacaktır. Yaşlı nüfusun artışı, Türkiye ve dünya genelinde, sağlık sektöründe yeni zorluklar ve fırsatlar doğurmaktadır. Geçmişteki yaşlılık ve yaşlanma olgularına yönelik stereotipler, gerontoloji, geriatri, gerontopsikiyatri ve gerontopsikoloji gibi disiplinlerin görüşleriyle değişmekte ve dönüşmektedir. Gerontoloji, yaşlılıkta ortaya çıkan sağlık sorunlarına karşı disiplinlerarası bir yaklaşımı benimsemektedir. Öğrencilerin gerontolojik hizmet alanlarında deneyim kazanmaları, yaşlı hastalara daha iyi hizmet verme yeteneklerini artırabilir. Bu durum, Türkiye'de yaşlı insan ve yaşlılık algısının kayıp ve gerileme olarak algılanmasının düzeltilmesine yardımcı olabilir. Gerontoloji eğitiminin tıp öğretimine entegre edilmesi, hekimlerin yaşlı popülasyona daha etkili hizmet etmelerine yardımcı olabilir ve sağlık profesyonellerinin yaşlılık konusundaki bilgilerini genişletebilir. Bu entegrasyon hem tıbbi eğitimin çeşitliliğini artıracak hem de geleceğin sağlık profesyonellerini yaşlılıkla ilgili karmaşık sorunlara daha hazırlıklı hale getirecektir. dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The increase in life expectancy and demographic transformation have made the aging process and the period of old age significant issues for modern societies. This change and transformation raise the question of whether it is necessary to include gerontology courses in medical education. This article will address the importance and potential benefits of incorporating gerontology courses into medical training. The rise in the elderly population, both in Turkey and worldwide, is creating new challenges and opportunities in the healthcare sector. Past stereotypes related to aging and old age are changing and evolving through the perspectives of disciplines such as gerontology, geriatrics, gerontopsychiatry, and gerontopsychology. Gerontology adopts an interdisciplinary approach to the health problems that arise in old age. Allowing students to gain experience in gerontological service areas can enhance their ability to better serve elderly patients. This can help correct the perception of the elderly and aging in Türkiye, which is often seen as loss and decline. Integrating gerontology education into medical training can assist physicians in providing more effective services to the elderly population and expand healthcare professionals' knowledge about aging. This integration will not only diversify medical education but also better prepare future health professionals for complex issues related to aging.
