Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, hemşirelik öğrencilerinin hemşire kavramına ilişkin algılarını metaforlar aracılığıyla belirlemeye çalışmaktır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgu bilim (fenomenoloji) deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerini ve hemşire kavramına ilişkin algılarını ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla oluşturulan veri toplama formu ile elde edilmiştir. Öğrencilerden hemşire kavramını hangi metaforla ilişkilendirdiklerini belirlemek amacıyla “Hemşire ………… gibidir; çünkü …………..” cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Öğrencilerin hemşire kavramına ilişkin geliştirdikleri metaforlar içerik analizi ile incelenmiştir. Ayrıca metaforlar SPSS programına girilerek frekans ve yüzde değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilerin %80’i kadın, %20’si erkeklerden oluşmaktadır ve yaş ortalamaları 21,58± 1,42’dir. Öğrenciler tarafından çalışma alanı ve koşulları, hemşirelik rolleri, hemşirelik değerleri olmak üzere 3 kategori altında toplam 47 metafor üretilmiştir. Öğrencilerin hemşire kavramını en sık anne (19), su (9), melek (9), güneş (8), ağaç (6), süpermen (4) ve karınca/arı (4) metaforları ile açıkladıkları belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin ürettikleri metaforlardan hareketle öğrencilerin hemşirelik algılarının genel olarak olumlu yönde olduğu; hemşireliğe geleneksel bakış açısını yansıtan metaforlar yanında mesleğin profesyonelliği için önemli olan hemşirelik rollerini ve hemşirelik değerlerini yansıtan metaforlar da kullandıkları görülmüştür. Hemşirelik eğitiminde metaforlardan yararlanılması ve hemşirelik rollerini tam olarak yansıtan yeni metaforlar üretilmesi önerilmektedir.
The aim of this study was to determine the metaphorical perceptions of nursing students towards the concept of nurse. In this study, phenomenology method was used. The data of the study were obtained through a data collection form created to reveal students' socio-demographic characteristics and their perceptions of the concept of nurse. Students were asked to complete a prompt "Nurse is like …... ;because ............". The metaphors developed by the students were analyzed by content analysis. In addition, the metaphors were entered into the SPSS program and their frequency and percentage values were calculated. 80% of the students participating in the study are women and 20% are men and their average age is 21.58 ± 1.42. Students produced 47 metaphors for "nurse" and these metaphors were grouped under 3 categories; field of study and conditions, nursing roles, and nursing values. It was determined that the students most frequently explained the concept of nurse with the metaphors of mother (19), water (9), angel (9), sun (8), tree (6), superman (4) and ant /bee (4). Research results have revealed that students have positive perceptions regarding the concept of nurse. In addition to metaphors reflecting the traditional perspective on nursing, it was observed that they also used metaphors that reflect nursing roles and nursing values, which are important for the profession's professionalism. It is recommended to use metaphors in nursing education and to produce new metaphors that reflect nursing roles.
