Öğe Examining the Efficacy of Psycho-Educational Program for Mothers on Mothers' Perception of Child Education Competence(2024) Teke, Esra; BALTACI, UMAY BİLGE; AVŞAROĞLU, SELAHATTİNThough parental efficacy is emphasized in much admirable research, very few social programs have been assessed. Parenting is a potential protective or risk factor for the development of the child and predicts outcomes related to the child’s developmental processes. In this study, the effect of a psychoeducation program on the childhood education efficacy perceptions of mothers was examined. The study is a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. 20 mothers with primary school children residing in Turkey, 10 in the experimental group and 10 in the control group, participated in the research. Each mother in the experiment group completed a psychoeducation program comprising 10 sessions lasting 50 minutes. Prior to the psycho-education, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the scores of the experimental and control groups obtained from the Child Education Efficiency Scale (CEES) as well as the Bringing Responsibility, Communication-Interaction, Knowing the Child, Developing the Child, and Guiding the Child subscales. The result of the research revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher scores for the Child Education Efficiency Scale and all subscales after receiving psychoeducation compared to before the training. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between the scores of the control group from the CEES or any subscales before and after psychoeducation. In addition, after psychoeducation, the scores of the experimental group were significantly higher for the CEES and Bringing Responsibility, Communication-Interaction, and Developing the Child subscales compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in the Guiding the Child, Knowing the Child subscales. The results indicate that the efficacy levels of mothers can be increased and explain the probable mechanisms that may affect efficacy.Öğe Fear of Happiness: A Systematic Review(2025) Teke, EsraFear of happiness, a pervasive issue particularly in Western societies, adversely affects individuals' mental health and is closely linked to significant life outcomes. As an emerging research area, the limited number of studies on this phenomenon underscores the need for a comprehensive literature review to enhance understanding of its nature, effects, and mental health implications, while identifying gaps for future research. This study aims to systematically analyze existing literature on fear of happiness. A systematic review was conducted, synthesizing findings from published articles based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, using content analysis and adhering to the PRISMA guidelines. As of October 19, 2024, searches across PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Sage Journals, and TR Index databases identified 224 articles, with 23 meeting the inclusion criteria. These studies were evaluated based on publication year, research location, objectives, sample characteristics, measurement tools, and findings, revealing considerable variability across these parameters.Öğe The effects of childhood emotional abuse on mental health in adulthood: A systematic literature review(2025) Teke, EsraThis study aims to conduct a systematic review of the current literature examining the impacts of childhood emotional abuse (CEA) on mental health in adulthood. The research process involved a thorough analysis of published articles addressing the consequences of CEA on mental health in adulthood, with findings systematically synthesized based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Utilizing the PRISMA report, between October 29 and November 21, 2024, database search in PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Sage Journals, and TR Index yielded 986 research articles. Among these, 15 articles fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The selected studies were scrutinized based on publication year, research locale, study objectives, sample characteristics, assessment tools, and the results. The majority of studies were conducted in 2024, 2023, and 2021. The studies were conducted to examine the associations between CEA and various psychological variables related to mental health such as depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, psychotic symptoms, paranoid thoughts, suicidal ideation, emotion regulation difficulties, cognitive symptoms, social support, rumination, dissociation, early maladaptive schemas, interpersonal problems, obesity and alcohol use. The sample sizes of studies ranges from 72 to 34653 participants. The most frequently utilized measurement instruments in the studies were the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form. In the investigation of the effects of CEA on mental health in adulthood, depression emerged as the most extensively examined variable. The results of the studies underscored CEA as a significant risk factor with the potential for having long-lasting and profound impacts on individuals' mental health, as well as being a crucial element in exacerbating psychological disorders. The results of the study were interpreted, and suggestions for future investigations were proposed.Öğe The Efficacy of EMDR-Focused Group Counseling Program Applied to Primary School Students with PTSD Symptoms in Grief Process(2024) Teke, Esra; AVŞAROĞLU, SELAHATTİNThe purpose of the paper is to examine the efficacy of the EMDR-focused group counseling program applied to primary school students who show PTSD symptoms in grief process. The research is quasi-experimental, pretest posttest and follow-up design with a control group. Participants were 12 students; the experimental group consisted of 6 students and the control group consisted of 6 students. Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS) was utilized in the research. EMDR-focused group counseling program was applied to the experimental group students. For data analysis; Mann Whitney U Test was used for intergroup comparisons; Friedman Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used for intragroup comparisons. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the mean scores of all subscales of CPSS of the experimental group students, who participated in the EMDR-focused group counseling program, differed significantly. In order to identify the measurements causing the difference, multiple comparison tests were conducted. It is detected that the reexperiencing and hyperarousal subscales score means of the experimental group students decreased significantly from the pretest to the follow-up test, the mean score of the avoidance subscale decreased significantly from the pretest to the posttest. Regarding the intragroup comparisons; it was found that follow-up measures of reexperiencing, avoidance and hyperarousal scores decreased significantly in favor of the experimental group. The findings reveal that the EMDR-focused group counseling program is effective in reducing the symptoms of primary school students who show PTSD symptoms in grief process.
