The diagnosis od COPD is based on the presence of clinical symptoms and the fact that the ratio of post-bronhodilator forced expiratory volume in 1 second to forced expiratory vital capacity(FEV1/FVC) is less than 0.70. Persistent limitation of airflow which is a characteristics of COPD is reproducible and most common lung function test that is why it is usually measured by spirometry. The small airway diseases and the parenchymal destruction play a role in the pathogenesis of COPD at different rates over time resulting in chronic airflow limitation. These pathologies are not always together at the same time and the contribution of those to the development of COPD differ from one individual to another. The pathophysiological involvement of small airways in COPD has been confirmed. When the obstruction of the small airways occur either by mucus, smooth muscle hypertrophy, inflammatory infiltration or air wall thickening; then the consequence is the increased resistance and ventilation impairment. The parenchymal destruction can be estimated via scanning and at the initial assessment of a COPD patient, it gives information about the concomitant pulmonary diseases and/or differential diagnosis. There is an increasing interest on symptomatic individuals whose whose COPD diagnosis has not been confirmed yet with spirometry but diagnosis is based on alternative methods and approaches. Although these methods nowadays are commonly used for the clinical research, they will offer an opportunity to the clinician to find out the COPD patients at an early stage. Herein we will discuss the available methods other than spirometry in the early diagnosis of COPD before the overt disease is confirmed.Öğe Kronik Böbrek Yetmezliği nedeni ile hemodiyaliz tedavisi alan hastaların D vitamini düzeyinin ayak hareketleri üzerine etkisinin karşılaştırılması(Malatya Turgut Ozal University, 2023) Ozbay, Zeynep; Altıparmak, Anıl; İnceoğlu, Feyza; Arpacı, Muhammed Furkan; Pekmez, Hıdır; Pembegül, İremAmaç: Kronik böbrek yetmezliği (KBY), böbrek fonksiyonlarının geri dönüşsüz olarak bozulması olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada KBY nedeni ile hemodiyaliz (HD) tedavisi alan kadın ve erkek hastalarda D Vitamini düzeyinin ayak hareketleri üzerindeki etkisi araştırıldı. Materyal ve Metot: Çalışmaya bilgilendirilmiş gönüllü onam formunu imzalayan, 40-90 yaş arası, haftada 3 kez düzenli olarak HD tedavisi alan,45 erkek ve 45 kadın, toplam 90 HD hastası dahil edildi. Biyokimyasal olarak D Vitamini düzeyi, element düzeyleri ve Parathormon (PTH) seviyeleri hastaların dosyaları incelenerek kaydedildi. Manuel gonyometre kullanılarak ayak bileği plantar fleksiyon, inversiyon ve eversiyon eklem hareket açıklığı ölçüldü. Bulgular: Yaş ortalaması kadınlarda 61,69 ± 15,07 yıl iken erkeklerde 61,49 ± 15,12 yıldır. Serum D vitamini düzeyi açısından cinsiyetler arasındaki fark istatiksel açıdan anlamlı bulunmadı (p>0,05). Beden kitle indeksi (BKİ) değişkenine göre kadınlar ve erkekler arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılık bulundu (p<0,05). However, complications and survival at the post-COVID-19 period have not been published extensively.Öğe The relationship of dietary antioxidant capacity with laboratory and anthropometric measurements in hemodialysis patients(MediHealth Academy Yayıncılık, 2023) Arslan, Nurgül; Alataş, Hacer; Pembegül, İremAim: Dietary antioxidant intake correlates with blood antioxidant content and protects against oxidative damage and related inflammatory complications. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between total antioxidant capacity of diet and effective factors with laboratory and anthropometric parameters in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Material and Method: The present case-control study consisted of 62 cases and 59 controls individuals who received hemodialysis treatment between the ages of 35-75. Dietary intake, sociodemographic data, medical history, and anthropometric measurements were collected from participants using a validated questionnaire. Results: Examining the association between dietary components and diet's total antioxidant capacity (dTAC) reveals a positive correlation between dietary protein (kg/avg), beta carotene (mcg/day), vitamin C (mg/day), vitamin E (mg/day), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (g/day) (p=0.002). The serum albumin, serum neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and HDL-cholesterol have been reported to have a positive relationship with dTAC. And body mass ındex (BMI) and other anthropometric parameters were found to have a negative connection with dTAC (p=0.007). Conclusion: Total dietary antioxidant capacity is effective on anthropometric measurements and serum laboratory values. Increasing the antioxidant capacity of the diet in hemodialysis patients is important to prevent complications related to inflammation.
