Öğe A possible interpretation of financial markets affected by dark volatility(Amer Inst Mathematical Sciences-Aims, 2023) Pincak, Richard; Pigazzini, Alexander; Jafari, Saeid; Korkmaz, Ozge; Ozel, Cenap; Bartos, ErikThe aim of this paper is to use a special type of Einstein warped product manifolds recently introduced, the so-called PNDP-manifolds, for the differential geometric study, by focusing on some aspects related to dark field in financial market such as the concept of dark volatility. This volatility is not fixed in any relevant economic parameter, a sort of negative dimension, a ghost field, that greatly influences the behavior of real market. Since the PNDP-manifold has a virtual dimension, we want to use it in order to show how the Global Market is influenced by dark volatility, and in this regard we also provide an example, by considering the classical exponential models as possible solutions to our approach. We show how dark volatility, combined with specific conditions, leads to the collapse of a forward price.Öğe Do environment-related technologies, urbanization, trade openness, and income impact energy consumption and intensity?(Springer, 2024) Korkmaz, OzgeThe link between energy and economic growth has been investigated for several nations and periods. Today, with global warming, it has been emphasized that governments should focus on energy policies by considering an environmentalist approach to energy use, and it has been observed that many researchers are now examining issues such as ecological footprint and reduction of carbon emissions in energy-related studies. This study aims to include clues about how T & uuml;rkiye, a foreign-dependent country in energy, should follow its energy policies. For this purpose, the relationship between energy consumption, environmental technologies, energy intensity, GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita, urbanization, and trade openness for T & uuml;rkiye (1980-2020) is examined by Fourier ARDL (Auto-Regressive Distributed Lags) cointegration and Fourier Toda-Yamamoto causality tests, which take into account structural breaks. According to the results, there is a bidirectional causality relationship between energy intensity and environment-related technologies. There is also a bidirectional relationship between energy consumption and energy intensity. Turkish policymakers should prioritize green and sustainable approaches to increasing industrial energy efficiency.Öğe Do oil, coal, and natural gas consumption and rents impact economic growth? An empirical analysis of the Russian Federation(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2022) Korkmaz, OzgeRussian economic growth relies much on natural resources, leading to large quantities of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, this article aims to explore the causal relationship between oil/coal/natural gas consumption, coal/oil/natural gas rents, and economic growth in the example of the Russian Federation. We used the data from 1992 to 2018 and the ARDL Bounds test. Our empirical findings lead us to conclude a long-run relationship between all variables in the Russian Federation. According to the results, when the oil rents affect the economic growth positively, the natural gas rents and coal rents affect the economic growth, negatively.Öğe Internet access and its role on educational inequality during the COVID-19 pandemic(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2022) Korkmaz, Ozge; Erer, Elif; Erer, DenizThis study investigates the determinants of Internet access and its effect on educational inequality in OECD countries during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The spatial panel data model is used to include the neighborhood in the model relating to educational inequality. The findings from the study reveal that despite the increase in Internet access during the Covid-19 period, the response to the pandemic has caused education inequalities. Furthermore, economic development indicators are effective in increasing Internet access and reducing educational inequality. Finally, the study shows that, as improvements in income levels can increase Internet access, which results in a reduction in educational inequality.Öğe INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ADR, STOCK PRICES AND MACROECONOMIC INDICATORS: THE CASE OF TÜRKİYE(Economic and Financial Research Assoc - Efad, 2025) Yalcin, Cagri Kaan; Sezal, Levent; Korkmaz, Ozge; Yenice, SedatAmerican Depositary Receipts (ADRs), which are traded through depositary receipt management by accepting the stock as an underlying asset, have become a frequently used investment instrument today. Since ADRs are linked to the underlying stock, there are multiple variables in determining their price. The effects of these variables on the ADR price may lead to an arbitrage gain between the underlying stock and the ADR return. The aim of the study is to identify the indicators affecting the Turkish ADR prices and to reveal the existence of arbitrage opportunities in ADRs. In the study, economic indicators affecting the price of Turkish ADRs were identified. Exchange rate, CDS premium, and various stock market indices were selected as economic indicators to be used in the analysis. Regression analysis was used in the study, where daily data were used between 2014 and 2024. AAsAa result of the study on eight different ADRs, it is determined that the return differences between ADRs and stocks are affected by various economic indicators. Moreover, the fact that this difference does not follow a random walk, i.e., it is predictable, provides evidence that the ADR market is inefficient within the framework of the efficient market hypothesis.Öğe The Impact of the Russo-Ukrainian War on the Bilateral Trade in the Region: Evidence from a Panel Gravity Model(Sage Publications India Pvt Ltd, 2024) Korkmaz, Ozge; Karacan, SemihThis study aims to investigate the regional impact of the sanctions imposed by the West on the Russian Federation. To this end, we used two samples to estimate the determinants of bilateral trade. The first dataset belongs to ex-Soviet countries between 1992 and 2019, and the second dataset expands it with bilateral trade data relating to China, Iran and Turkey. The results reveal that there are structural differences between the two samples regarding the determinants of the bilateral trade flows and sanctions that have spillover effects in the region. We also projected our findings to the recent events.JEL Codes: C33, F13, F14Öğe The link among energy consumption, growth and globalization in Turkish agriculture(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023) Gunduz, Orhan; Korkmaz, Ozge; Ceyhan, VedatPurpose This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between energy consumption, agricultural economic growth and globalization in Turkey by using data from 1980 to 2018. Design/methodology/approach The Lee-Strazicich LM breakpoint test was used to test the stationarity of the variables. The presence of the long-run relationship between the variables was examined by using the Maki cointegration test. The dynamic ordinary least squares method was used to estimate the long-run coefficients of the model. The direction of causalities was determined using the Toda-Yamamoto causality test. Findings Research results showed that consuming energy on average of 14,460 GJ/hectare has returned $1,612 agricultural gross domestic products (GDP)/hectare per year. Turkey's energy consumption (EC), GDP and globalization index (GI) from 1980 to 2018 increased by 2-fold, 3-fold and 1.5-fold, respectively. Research results also showed that Turkey's EC was affected by GI and GDP. Practical implications The study suggests using environmentally friendly energy inputs and conscious consumption to reach growth targets and to reduce the pressure of intensive energy use on natural resources. Further research is needed for exploring the causality and relationship between EC and GI and along with other variables in the agricultural sector. Originality/value The study contributes two contributions to the existing literature. The first contribution is to examine the neglected relationship between GI and EC and GDP in Turkey. The second is that the EC data for Turkish agriculture used in the study were calculated by the authors.
