Economic Comparison of Organic and Conventional Paddy Cultivation
(Malatya Turgut Özal Üniversitesi, 2024) Kahraman, Şerif; Atakul, Şehmus; Kılınç, Sevda; Alp, Aydın
Organic production is not only sustainable agriculture, but also an alternative production model that aims to produce quality and healthy products. The present work was conducted to define the potentialities of organic rice cultivation. The Osmancık-97 and Karacadağ cultivars, were used in the research. The research was carried out in 3 replications according to the split plot trial design in random blocks in the 2012-2103 in Diyarbakır. According to the results of the research; harvest index 27.2-36.8%, fertility 77.8-91.7%, number of weeds 1.4-3.4 adet/m² showed changes. The values of grain yield of the Karacadağ cultivar was 5074 kg ha-1 and 4681 kg ha-1 in conventional and organic conditions, respectively. The local Karacadağ variety received the highest value in all characteristics. In economic terms, organic Karacadağ application was found to be the most profitable method with a net profit of 4370 TL/ha. Karacadağ cultivar proved its ability to adapt to the ecological conditions of Diyarbakır. It is suggested that the production of the local Karacadağ rice variety in organic farming conditions may be increased in the region.

EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE OF INBRED MAIZE LINES TOPCROSSING IN DIYARBAKIR MAIN CROP CONDITIONS
(Malatya Turgut Özal Üniversitesi, 2024) Atakul, Şehmus; Kılınç, Sevda; Kahraman, Şerif
The main goal of maize breeding studies has been to develop new maize varieties with high grain yield or qualite, taking into account the needs of different demand groups, and to include them in the production chain. This study was carried out to monitor the performance of maize lines developed in the scope of the researches of national maize integrated crop management. In this experiment, 97 inbred maize lines topcrossing and 3 control varieties (ADA 351, DKC6589 and P31A34) included for trials of Diyarbakır in 2014 by 10x10 lattice experimental design with 2 replications and 2 rows. Trial was harvested as two rows. According to the findings of experiment; plant height ranged 214.9-302.2 cm, first ear height 73.4-137.3 cm, tasseling period 70.2-82.7 day, grain/ear ratio 82.2-89.1% and grain yield 5984-15593 kg ha-1.The average yield in the experiment was 8350 kg ha-1. As a result; the highest grain yields were obtained from P31A34 (15593 kg ha-1) cultivar and ANT-85 (13277 kg ha-1), EGEYM-12 (13216 kg ha-1) crosses in Diyarbakır main crop conditions.

Research of Conventional and Organic Rice Cultivation in Karacadağ Conditions
(Malatya Turgut Özal Üniversitesi, 2025) Kahraman, Şerif; Atakul, Şehmus; Kılınç, Sevda; Alp, Aydın
Organic production is not only sustainable agriculture, but also an alternative production model that aims to produce quality and healthy products. The present work was conducted to define the potentialities as economic of organic rice cultivation. The Osmancık-97 and Karacadağ cultivars, were used in the research. The research was carried out in three replications according to the split parcel trial design in random blocks rice growing periods on the farmer field in Karahan village, in Diyarbakır. According to the results obtained from the research; fertility was 83.5-91.2%, harvest index was 35.7-36.5%, and number of weed varied between 1.94-3.28 number/m². The values of grain yield of the Karacadağ cultivar was 4816 kg ha-1 and 4179 kg ha-1 in conventional and organic conditions while the values of grain yield of the Osmancık-97 cultivar was 3784 kg ha-1 and 3234 kg ha-1 in conventional and organic conditions, respectively. The local variety Karacadağ gave the best results for all the traits tested. Economically, organic Karacadağ application was regarded to be the most profitable method with a net profit of 3761 TL ha-1. Karacadağ variety has proven its adaptability to Diyarbakır ecological conditions. It is concluded that organic production in the region can be increased by using Karacadağ paddy in organic cultivation.
