Bilimsel Araştırmalarda İstatistiğin ve Doğru Yöntem Seçimlerinin Önemi

Abstract

İstatistik yöntemlere öğrencilerin başarı ortalaması, trafik kazası istatistikleri, tarım ve hayvancılıkta verimlilik gibi günlük hayatta yer alan olaylarda sık sık gerek duyulduğu gibi önemli bilimsel çalışmaların sonuçları da istatistik yöntemlerle değerlendirilmektedir. Tek kalem ürün pazarlayan küçük bir işletme sahibi için günlük ortalama satış miktarını belirlemek temel bir istatistik yöntem olduğu gibi sosyal bir konuda hazırlanan anket sonuçlarının değerlendirmesi de istatistiksel yöntemlerle yapılmaktadır. Ancak çalışmalarda genellikle incelenen değişkenlerin birçoğu birbirinden bağımsız değildir, bir veya daha fazla değişken ile ilişki içindedirler. Bundan dolayı herhangi bir değişken incelenirken, bu değişken ile alakalı diğer tüm değişkenleri ya sabit kabul etmek ya da kontrol altına almak gerekmektedir. Bu da doğru çözüme ulaşmaya engel olmaktadır. Çok değişkenli istatistik yaklaşımlar, çok sayıdaki değişkenin oluşturduğu veri yapısını basit bir forma dönüştürüp problemin yapısına uygun çözümler için daha sade bilgiler ortaya koymaktadır. Bilimsel bir çalışma yapılırken öncelikle problem tespit edilir. Probleme ilişkin gözlemler yapılır, veriler toplanır, veriler işlenerek bilgi haline getirilir. Buraya kadar yapılan işlemler ne kadar özenli olursa olsun istatistiksel sonuçları doğru yorumlanmayan bir araştırma hiçbir probleme çözüm olamaz. Bu eksiklik amaca ve veriye uygun istatistiksel yöntemin seçilmesiyle giderilebilir. Bu çalışmada istatistiğin ve doğru yöntem seçimlerinin araştırmalardaki önemi üzerinde çalışılmıştır.

Statistical methods are often required in daily life events such as students' average achievement, traffic accident statistics, agriculture and livestock productivity, and the results of important scientific studies are also evaluated using statistical methods. For a small business owner marketing a single item product, determining the average daily sales amount is a basic statistical method, as well as the evaluation of the results of a survey on a social issue is made by statistical methods. However, most of the variables examined in studies are not independent from each other, they are in a relationship with one or more variables. Therefore, when examining any variable, it is necessary to accept all other variables related to this variable either as constant or to take it under control. This prevents reaching the right solution. Multivariate statistical approaches transform the data structure formed by many variables into a simple form and reveal simpler information for solutions suitable for the structure of the problem. While conducting a scientific study, the problem is determined first. Observations regarding the problem are made, data is collected, data is processed and turned into information. No matter how rigorous the procedures have been done so far, a study whose statistical results are not interpreted correctly cannot be a solution to any problem. This deficiency can be overcome by choosing the appropriate statistical method for the purpose and data. In this study, the importance of statistics and correct method choices in research has been studied.
