The aim of this study is to assess the perceptions of self-efficacy in educational
software development in a group of students who mainly take computer programming
courses and students’ enrolled for Computer and Instructional Technologies program were
excluded from the study. . For this purpose, 372 students studying at three different state
universities were reached in the 2018-2019 academic year. “Educational Software
Development Self-Efficacy Scale” developed by Aşkar and Dönmez (2004) was used to
collect the data. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that the
students considered themselves sufficient for project management and instructional design
phase, which were the stages of educational software development. However, they found
themselves inadequate in the animation design, sound and video unit stage. What is more,
it was determined that the perception of educational software development self-efficacy
differed significantly in favor of male students, software engineering students and 3rd
grade students. In addition, it was found that the students who took part in the educational
software development phase before, considered themselves more competent at all stages
of the scale than the students who did not take part. In line with the results of the research,
it may be suggested to carry out activities that will enable students to actively participate in
software development processes in departments that provide programming-based
education
