Abstract

Bellek geçmiş deneyimlerimizin ve anılarımızın yer aldığı bir arşiv gibidir. Bu arşiv geçmiş yaşantımızın canlı kanıtlarıdır. Fotoğraf ise geçmiş ve şimdi arasında iletişimi sağlayan bir tür hatırlatıcıdır. Bellek ve fotoğraf arasındaki ilişki saklama, biriktirme ve yeniden hatırlama gibi olgular üzerinde birleşir. İcat edildiğinden beri fotoğraf görsel algıyı derinlemesine etkilemiş ve zamanı anlamlandırma biçimimizi değiştirmiştir. Geçmişin kaydını tutma özelliği ile bellek gibi çalışan fotoğraf, unutulmaya yüz tutmuş anılara ışık tutarken, bilgisine sahip olmadığımız geçmiş olayların kayıtlarını da sunar. Bu anıların büyük bir bölümünü mekânlar oluşturmaktadır. Özellikle doğup büyüdüğümüz kentler birer hafıza mekânıdır. İçinde yaşayanların deneyimleriyle gelişen ve yaşayan bir organizmaya dönüşen kentin kimliği, içinde yaşayan insanların hafızalarından meydana gelmektedir. 19. yüzyılın ortalarında, böylesi bir kent olan Paris’te yaşayan Charles Marville, bugün yerinde olmayan birçok mekânı fotoğraflamıştır. Bu fotoğraflar, tam anlamıyla yıkılan ve yeniden inşa edilen bir şehrin tüm süreçlerine tanıklık eden Marville’in gözünden, bugüne bırakılan büyük bir görsel bellek olarak tarihte yerini almaktadır.
